I have to do something

I know I have a gambling addiction and it's making me feel totally depressed. Over the last 10 years I have lost many thousands of dollars on the pokies, mostly online and also at a pub. It's money I have worked hard for and I hate what I'm doing but I just can't seem to stop. I've been able to hide my situation from my family and I know my wife will be devastated if she found out. I feel so disgusted with myself. I'm going to seek help from GA and just pray that this terrible disease will go away.

Hi Swordfish,
Thanks for your post - it sounds like it has been a rough time for you and you're feeling really motivated to make some changes and get some help - well done! GA can be great for getting some support from people who are going through something similar. How has it been reading through the other posts on the forum? As always, we are here to talk to as well if you would like some advice from a counsellor over the phone or face to face.
I can hear that this has really affected you but I'd like to commend you for reaching out - sounds like a cliche but it really is the first step. Please check back in whenever you'd like to let us know how you're going and share your story.
all the best,
Counsellor Sam
