I found it initially quite easy to win large sums of money betting online on certain sports and once I'd won I was hooked and outlaying large sums of money, usually in the thousands. In the end I new I was but one person in a huge pool of money being outlayed on these particular teams I was betting on and I also new that at times the teams I was betting on would blatantly not be playing to their potential. i knew I had absolutely no control over how the team I was betting on would perform and that they could not win every game yet I still outlayed huge amounts of money, one day outlaying the last $14k in my account and loosing, then struggling and slowly getting some savings back over the next few months only to lose it all again on a good team that didn't perform on the day as a heavily favoured team. If anyone is lucky enough to win big I would urge them to walk away and stop, or at least "sleep"(not bet) for a long period because you are now in grave danger(and possibly a marked punter), of not only loosing what you won but chasing those kinds of wins. These online betting companies would be bankrupted if it were that easy and believe me it's not!! As gamblers we have no idea what influences how a team will perform on any given day but we all know deep down that even the best teams have off days and there's no way of knowing when, so essentially we are all playing Russian roulette and hoping it won't be when we bet on them. It's futile and all based on luck. I have a beautiful wife that I am letting down so badly and it's the worst feeling in the world. Gambling should be a little bit of fun, not a hole lot of heartache so if it's starting to become this it's time to reel it in. Thankfully I'm not in any debt but I've blown lots of savings which is the next worse thing.

Thanks for your post on our forum – it sounds like you've had quite a journey with your gambling and are at a stage where you're ready to make some changes. What really comes across is your frustration with how the betting companies work and take advantage of people, particularly in terms of chasing losses. If you would like some additional support i'd encourage you to call our helpline on 1800 858 858 to speak to a counsellor for some advice about managing your gambling.
I also wanted to welcome you to the gambling help forum – please feel free to share a bit more about yourself on the forum and introduce yourself to our other members.
